My postpartum journey week 1
Hello!!
Wowzers another whole week GONE! I'm always sad at how fast time tends to fly--but I'll be honest with ya'll this SNOW has got to go and I found myself wishing it away way to much this past week.
I had shared with ya'll that I was starting my postpartum fitness/wellness whatever-you-want-to-call-it journey last week. Granted I was only 5 weeks post baby (which WAHHH! time flies!) But ya'll this is SO MUCH MORE than 'getting your body back' And that is NOT why I'm sharing this. I"m literally sharing it with you to show you what is possible when you take time to nourish yourself inside and out. Because here is the thing--that 'PERFECT' moment is never going to come, you are not going to have more time down the road. The JOY of why I love sharing my journey is because as a busy Momma I"M LIVING THE CRAZY LIFE too--I'm here to show how you CAN take action.
Growing a baby is hard work; its hard on your body and it will change you no matter how hard you think it won't. Fitness for me is my sanity. Having three kiddos, the age of three and under is HARD. It is a lot of fun but its freaken HARD. I am so thankful that I learned the value of fitness and nutrition and how it makes you FEEL. Because that is the only reason I am doing this. It's a little time in my day I actually get to focus on ME.
My y main goal was to get some movement and stress relief so I stuck to yoga workouts. The online gym I have access too has a 21 day yoga retreat---its paced perfectly and focuses on proper alignment which is what every Momma needs after growing a baby-- your body certainly gets a little out of whack and lopsided.
I also focused on my nutrition more--I made a meal plan for breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks--I was struggling with eating the last few weeks because I was being a bit lazy about meal planning. Between getting the boys fed, nursing the baby and everything else I found I was lacking energy and getting snappy because I was not eating enough of the RIGHT things. Meal planning really helps me eliminate that so I realized I need to get back to it.
Last week I ate MORE calories and lost a few pounds in the process! HA! I was not even trying too but this is why I'm sharing this ya'll. When you treat your body like a temple it treats you back; and I'm telling ya, EAT MORE of the right stuff--weigh less!
My meals consisted of:
Breakfast: 2 fried eggs with a veggie and a fruit or my smoothie mix with fruit
Snacks: 2 HB eggs, or carrots and hummus, or another fruit
Lunch: Greek salad with shrimp
Dinner: Roasted veggies with quinioa, chicken sausage with roasted veggies, veggie egg fried rice
Seriously NOTHING fancy at all. Simple is best---I usually eat the same thing for snacks/lunch all week. Its easy and simple--I like simple!
However I was NOT perfect-- I had two slices of cheese pizza on Friday night; and half a beer with my husband; and I certainly had some random handfuls of cheerios throughout the week when my boys were eating them.
I did not do the scheduled yoga sessions on Thursday or Friday because I was just not feeling up too. I had some pain in my abdomen and cramping and I wanted to make sure I wasn't pushing myself too much so I eased off a bit.
On Saturday I realized my lower belly pain was due to bending over the wrong way(hahahaha) No seriously--I was bending from the hips, instead of squatting and my lord what difference that makes when you do it a bazillion times a day. It is Saturday evening as I type this and I just finished the Saturday yoga flow--felt amazing--its the perfect way to ease back into exercise because of the way the instructors walk you through the poses and you really focus on your breath. Which is exactly what you should do postpartum, well in my opinion anyhow. If you'd like to give it a 30 day trial check that out here.
So there you have it really--the pictures speak for themselves.
This is what happens when you nourish your mind, body and soul folks.
You are not selfish for taking time for you.
YOU DO have 20-30minutes a day to focus on YOU.
I believe in you.
I'm cheering for you!
What are you doing to take action in your life?
XO,
Kaitlin
